How do I restore an accidentally deleted passage? ((NOT TECH SAVVY))

edited June 2015 in Help! with 2.0
I just need my cache from yesterday, since I didn't edit much worth keeping today (besides the whole "deleting important passage" thing). Unfortunately, I don't know what to search for; all I know is that it's a Chrome cache (probably). I've tried Googling an answer, but they just mention looking for the website (that I don't know), and one had me open a command prompt which offered nothing. I also can't decipher the strings of numbers I get on anything I'm aware of. (If I have to recall a previous version of the entirety of the work, that's all right with me).

Anyone able to help me out by giving directions rather than tech babble?

I'm using Harlowe in case that's needed, and Twine shows itself as an external program rather than a Twine tab on Google Chrome.

  • If it's just a passage, it's gone. Sorry. Start rewriting what you can.
Am I the creator of Twine, or the smartest person on here? Nope. Not even close. But I've never seen anyone get back a passage.

What I CAN do for you, is to signal the smartest people in the forum. Good luck.

PS, If you're not on this list, I still probably think you are amazing.

@Sage So the cache file from yesterday wouldn't help me get back the data associated with this passage? Even if I get back everything else thrice, I would do it just to save myself the work for this one.

(And thanks for the luck; I'm most definitely gonna need it).
  • Not sure which version of Twine 2 you are using, but since 2.0.5 when you try to delete a passage, it warns you and gives you the option of cancelling. This is extremely useful, as I too, have accidentally deleted passages... and as @Sage said, once they're gone... they're gone. Best to not waste time trying to look for ways of getting them back, and invest rather in re-writing. Who knows, the re-write may even be better than the original!
  • I would also suggest regularly backing up your work via either the Publish to File or Archive options.

That way if you do make a mistake like this again you may be able to load one of your backups and copy-n-paste the missing/modified passage into the current version of your story.
